WHEN TO GO
Visit in the summer you will enjoy the nature of the place and the various tourism events in the program. From June to August in the center of town takes an extensive program of events, one of all the Feast of Threshing, the third Sunday of July, with historical re-enactments farming and food and wine exhibitions. Even in the off season and winter are held gastronomic fairs. A good date to visit San Casciano Val di Pesa may be December 13, the feast of the patron, the Fair of Saint Lucia.
WHY TAVARNELLE VAL DI PESA
Between Val di Pesa and Val d’Elsa, Barberino is a country surrounded by the Chianti hills where you can appreciate especially the nature, the landscapes and the delicious food and wine. The old town has a medieval character with interesting monuments.
GETTING AROUND
You can reach Tavarnelle by car or bus. On foot, by bicycle and on horseback you can hike.
WHAT TO SEE
In the historical center there is the Badia a Passignano, very ancient monastery dating back to the eleventh century that recalls an old fortress. To visit the many churches such as San Biagio, Saint Lucia at Borghetto and Our Lady of the Snow in the Gothic style. Very impressive also the Black Castle, now a luxury hotel. Also worth seeing is the Tignano Castle and St. Peter Parish in Bossolo hosting the Mueseo of sacred art.
WHAT TO DO
Take a stroll to enjoy the surrounding forests, meadows and fields of olive trees and vineyards. A bike tour you will also learn about the surrounding villages, as Barberino Val d’Elsa, Passignano and San Donato in Poggio. Make even a ride on horseback along the famous Via Regia Romana. On foot or by bike, do not miss the pedestrian-bycicle lane path of 20 km of the river Pesa, to see the Val di Pesa and the archaeological site of Villa Romana del Vergigno.
