WHEN TO GO

During the summer season the city is bustling and full of events. The April 28 is the feast of the patron saint, in May take place the Festival of Stairways and the Festa della Magione, between May and June is the International Festival of Shadows. In autumn it is still nice and full of festivals. In early December the “Pigio” Festival, the crushing of grapes with competitions between districts.

WHY POGGIBONSI

Romantic medieval village perched on the hills, is one of the most important towns of the Elsa Valley and is located between two rivers: Elsa and screeds. Ancient towns, today a commercial and industrial vocation.

GETTING AROUND

Move by car or motorbike. The old town is pedestrian and cycling you can appreciate the natural beauty.

WHAT TO SEE

In Poggibonsi you can visit the Medici Fortress of Poggio Imperiale, built in the sixteenth century by order of Lorenzo the Magnificent. It stands on a hill where there is also the Archaeology and Technology Park of Poggio Imperiale. In the historical center there are various religious buildings of interest such as the Church of San Lorenzo and the Romituzzo Sanctuary which houses a “Madonna della Neve” the fourteenth and 5,000 ex-anatomical vote in pressed paper representing parts of the human body.

The convent of San Lucchese preserved frescoes of the XIV-XV-XVI century and the remains of San Lucchese, patron of the city. Two other beautiful places are the Castello della Magione, small complex medieval monument belonged to the Knights Templar, and the Source of the Fairies, large public fountain of the thirteenth century. architectural relic of the lost Poggi Bonizio.

WHAT TO DO

Do not miss one of the many food and wine tours hosted in local wine cellars. In summer you can enjoy the premises of the historical center, various shops with souvenirs and crafts, full of life until late at night, as well as cafes, restaurants and inns. Via della Repubblica, also called Via Maestra, it is the way with more stores. Try the club Vanilla if you want to dance, the weekend also features a buffet-aperitif. Very beautiful also the two city cinema.
