WHEN TO GO
From June to September Castelnuovo it is lively and full of events, as all of Chianti. June 5, there is the feast of Saints Giusto and Clemente, the town’s patron, the night of San Lorenzo (August 10) held the initiative Goblets of Stars, and in September there is the feast of Luke, one of the most interesting wine and food initiatives Siena.
WHY CASTELNUOVO BERARDENGA
It is located between the sub-zone of the Senesi and the Chianti Classico Hills, which is the southernmost town, about 20 km from Siena. Worth a visit because immersed in the nature of the Crete Senesi and the medieval old town. The district is full of villas built in the nineteenth century by the Sienese aristocracy; nearby there are beautiful villages, castles, villas and churches.
GETTING AROUND
In the historic center the ideal is to walk. To visit the Chianti and move from one country normally can use the car, the motorcycle and the bicycle.
WHAT TO SEE
astel Nuovo built by Siena in 1366 has a beautiful old town of medieval structure. At the center of the country is the Arco Lane, characterized by steep stone stairs and topped with a bow. To see the Villa Chigi Saracini, built in the nineteenth century on the ruins of the old castle, with its large English park and Italian gardens. Different and interesting religious architecture such as the Rectory of Saints Giusto and Clemente and the Parish of San Felice Bossi. In the village there is the Museum of the landscape, with an archaeological section and a wealth of documentation on the history of Sienna’s landscape.
WHAT TO DO
You can visit the old town and stop in one of its cellars and wine bars. The surroundings are suitable for walking and cycling, especially worth visiting the nearby village of San Gusme, the Montalto Castle and the Certosa.
