WHEN TO GO
The summer period is ideal for visiting Rapolano Terme, especially for the spa complex. On August 15, the city is in festival to celebrate the patron Virgin of the Assumption. In July and August there is the Festival of the Crete Senesi and in September held on September Rapolanese with fairs and exhibitions market
WHY RAPOLANO TERME
Rapolano Terme is a small village that is home to an important spa, already known in Roman times. The thermal spring waters are two: the Terme di San Giovanni, in the open country, and the Ancient Querciolaia not far from the center.
GETTING AROUND
Visit the natural beauty of the area, Rapolano Terme lends itself to be explored by bicycle and on foot.
WHAT TO SEE
In addition to the two spas, Rapolano presents the natural and archaeological sites that are worth visiting.
Not far from the Terme di San Giovanni it is the archaeological site of Campo Muri, with the remains of a settlement from the Etruscan and Roman times with a votive pit called Buca delle Fate, where they celebrated the cult of the thermal waters.
Near the Terme Querciolaia is the Water Park, a park dedicated to the travertine formed with limestone deposits of thermal waters, there are sculptures and findings. The “Back Donkey” and “Polecat” are two natural areas created by the thermal waters. Also worth seeing is the Museum of Ancient Grange, the grain storage restored to its splendor and the Oil Museum to find out machinery and equipment of one-time farming.
Not far also the village of Modanella with the medieval castle (in the picture), ancient lordship today has been transformed into a farm and farm.
WHAT TO DO
To deepen its natural features you can take a journey to discover the sources, many of which no longer visible, and natural beauty. Starting from Rapolano Termea foot or by bike you can explore the territory of the Crete Senesi, reached by crossing an iron bridge on the Ombrone River and along the river. A few kilometers away, to visit the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, Asciano and Buonconvento.
